This rifle's serial number prefix XR means it was part of a contract of rifles manufactured by the Nazi's for their Romanian allies. The serial number is 6778 P1 and above it is E (Lion crest) followed by 27. Contract rifles were also marked on the left rail in this manner with the appropriate crest of the country purchasing on the receiver.
VZ 24 SERIAL NUMBER LOOKUP SERIAL NUMBERS
The stock does not appear to be original to the rifle as the serial numbers do not match. Is there a way to tell the year of this rifle? Each cycle had around 260,000 rifles, 10,000 for reach of the 26 letters in the alaphabet.if that is the correct number for the Czech … Bore is in excellent condition. Obviously it is a Czech Mauser, but I would like more information on it (year, etc). The rifle was designed in Czechoslovakia shortly after World War I, to replace the Vz. I was lucky and picked up a very early serial number matching CZ 24.
These rifles were transitional production to use up remaining VZ.24 parts prior to switching to the standard 98K pattern in mid 1942. Not the Vz 24 I originally thought it was. Also I could not find any import marking on the barrel or the receiver. It is often designated the CZ 27 after the naming scheme used by the Česká zbrojovka factory for post-World War II commercial products.
